HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT THE
STREET YOU LIVE ON? ONE BLOCK IS AN EXPLORATION OF OUR STREETS AND OUR STORIES.
One Block examines how we are each shaped by our physical environments, by the people
who have surrounded us and by the histories that swell under our feet. It's an investigative romp that explores a convergence of ideas about
landscape and story.
WE CONSIDER OUR COLLECTION OF ARTIFACTS
AKIN TO A SORT OF MODERN DAY ARCHAELOGICAL DIG.
In order to help us create performance
material, and to learn about the stories on the streets, we sent out letters to
current residents of each street and asked them to anonymously send us back an
artifact – any object or story or song or text that in some way connects to
their experience of living on that street.
One Block was a part
of the Harbourfront Centre HATCH program. It was workshopped in April of 2011
and had a public presentation on April 16th.
