Xena

was a companion

who through many stages

of life

brought a feeling

of safety

of humour

and of light

So grateful for the smallest kindness

So wise

and quick to learn

But life sometimes

makes us choose

some unpredicted turns

And yet those bonds

of recognition

that fill up

one’s whole heart

Can remind us

that beyond this life

We don’t have to be apart

For memories

are rich

and the legacy

of love

May it lift the sadness

that weights the chest

And carry us beyond

and above
